Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) is the term used when either the uterus, bladder, or colon has descended into the vaginal vault.

The name of your particular prolapse relates to which organ or organs have descended.  You may be diagnosed with a cystocele (bladder), urethrocele (urethra), rectocele (rectum), uterine (uterus) or vaginal vault prolapse.  Depending on how far the organ(s) have descended  the prolapse will be graded : I (still inside), II (at the vaginal opening), or III (outside your body).

Physical therapy treatment can help you to strengthen the muscles and fascia that support your organs.  We will also teach you how to reduce pressure on your organs and improve function.
