Lisa Iacovelli, PT, PRPC

Lisa Iacovelli, PT, PRPC graduated Summa Cum Laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1986. Initially, she focused her postgraduate studies in the areas of Orthopedics and Manual Therapy.

In 1991, Lisa completed the Folsom Long Term Manual Therapy program, a fifteen month program which provides extensive training in Norwegian and Australian manual therapy techniques.

In 1993, Lisa began to shift more attention to the study of Women's Health and pelvic floor dysfunction.  Her initial interest in supporting birthing women lead her to become doula certified, in order to provide care for her patients during labor and delivery.   To further her education, she became a volunteer at the Marin Birth Center in San Rafael, and completed Elizabeth Davis' Intensive Midwifery Training class for lay midwives.

Rather than shift careers toward midwifery, Lisa decided to support women by concentrating her efforts on the evaluation and treatment of pelvic floor disorders in Women, and to educate women during pregnancy and post delivery, to minimize injury and regain optimal health for the years ahead.  For all these reasons, in 1995, Lisa opened the first clinic in Marin specializing in Women's Health and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, and began to educate the medical community about the importance of utilizing physical therapy treatment for these disorders.

The following year, Lisa gave birth to her first child at home in Mill Valley, supported by midwives, doulas, and close friends, and, soon after, joined her husband, Michael Iacovelli, P.T., D.C., to create the Physical Medicine Center of Marin, a physical therapy corporation, providing physical therapy and chiropractic care for patients with Orthopedic, Women's Health, and Pelvic Floor disorders.  Very quickly, it became apparent that not only did women suffer from pelvic floor disorders, but men also needed treatment, so Lisa began to provide needed services to both men and women.  In 1998, she gave birth to her son, also at home in Mill Valley, surrounded by friends and family.

Lisa continues to be one of the main providers of pelvic floor physical therapy in Marin.  She continues to pursue studies in the areas of prenatal and postnatal care, pelvic floor pain syndromes, pelvic floor organ prolapse, post surgical rehabilitation in the areas of urology, gynecology, obstetrics, and urinary and fecal incontinence.  In 2007, Lisa initiated an interdisciplinary group of Physicians and Allied Health Professionals, which meets quarterly to study and further integrate care for pelvic pain patients in Marin.
